This rug will be handwoven by neighbors Khatima and Rokia.
Khatima and Rokia belong to a female-only weaving association located 30km from the popular weaving town of Tazenakht.
The Zanafi border technique comes from the High Atlas Mountains and is extra special as its reversible – the symbols become inverted depending on the side.
The middle of rug is derived by the Flatweave weaving technique.
This piece will be woven using 100% “live” wool, which allows for healthier and stronger wool. While the Zanafi border utilizes undyed wool, the Flatweave colors comes from naturally dying the wool blue from an indigo stone, and the symbolism hand stitched and embroidered into the weave comes from henna, beets, flowers, pomegranate skin, and saffron.
