This rug was handwoven by Aisha who belongs to a female only a weaving association located 28km from the popular weaving town of Tazenakht. This piece consists of 100% live wool, which was carded, brushed and spun by the women of the association. The color palette is derived from organic spice blends such as indigo stone, saffron, henna and pomegranate skin.
In more traditional rug designs, the symbolism was often a wish or depiction of the artisan’s life. These days, the next generation of artisans find inspiration in other sources, like the natural landscapes around them. For example, not only does this weave depict camels, donkeys and birds but also lion paws which represent strength and protection.
