This Marmoucha Hand-Knot rug was woven by Aicha.
Aicha belongs to an association of artisans who reside in Marmoucha – a village located in the North of Morocco and sits just south of Fez. Marmoucha is in the region where the infamous Beni Ourain tribe once lived. Zahra, picture, is the leader of this particular association.
Marmoucha is both the name of the village as well as rug style. This area produces some of the strongest wool of all of Morocco which allows their rugs to be extra plush and soft. This piece was woven with 100% locally sourced wool and dyed with spices bought from the souk.
The symbolic designs woven intricately together will bring protection to any room.
