This Hanbel was woven by Aicha.
Aicha belongs to the Ouaouzguiti Association. From the Tiouine village, Aicha and her neighbors have joined forces with nine other villages in the surrounding area to make up an association of weavers that has been around for eight decades.
Made of 100% wool from the local sheep of the village, Aicha carded, brushed and spun the wool by hand. She then used a mix of henna leaves, olive leaves, flowers, indigo stone and pomegranate skins to naturally dye the wool.
Every design element comes entirely from Aicha’s imagination – the symbols within this rug depict protection from evil, strength, beauty and respect just to name a few.
