This intricate Hanbel runner will be handwoven by Fadma and the artisans of Le Vieux Village.
Association Le Vieux Village is a beautiful collective of women artisans just outside of Tazenakht. This association is a true family affair. Mlouka, the matriarch of the collective, has passed the art of weaving down to her daughters, Naima and Fatima, daughters-in-law, Latifa and Meriem, cousins, and villagers. All of the rugs from Le Vieux are made from 100% live wool that was brushed, carded, and spun by the women of the association.
This rug style is called Hanbel. The colors were created with natural dyes using spice blends & local plants such as pomegranate skin, beets, saffron, henna and turmeric. While the majority of the weave is flat, the designs have a slightly higher pile, giving this piece texture and dimension.
The border surrounding the piece represents the defensive wall that usually surrounds a Kasbah.
