This Hanbel rug will be handwoven by Mlouka. Mlouka is one of the leaders of a collective of women artisans just outside of Tazenakht.
She’s the matriarch of the collective and has passed the art of weaving down to her daughters, daughters-in-law, cousins, and villagers.
Using 100% live wool and all natural spices, this piece is absolutely breathtaking. The rug’s base color comes from naturally dying the wool blue from an indigo stone, and the symbolism hand stitched and embroidered into the weave comes from henna, pomegranate, saffron, alfalfa and mint.
