This rug will be woven by a group of artisans who reside in a village just outside of Beni M’rirt which is located within the Middle Atlas Mountains. Made up of 100% wool the women of the association brushed, carded, and spun the wool themselves. Both the white and black hues are from undyed, natural wool. The traditional Beni M’rirt rug is inspired by the popular Beni Ourain rug. There are quite a few differences in these techniques, the most visible is the thickness of the knot and wool that the artisans of M’Rirt use.
This design of this piece was inspired by the traditional Beni Ourain design elements that the artisans modernized by multiplying and creating a bit of a free-form look.
This beauty is just as cozy, plush and soft as it looks.
